Friday's Favorite OTR

Escape: “Confession” 12/31/47

William Conrad was one of radio’s finest and hardest-working character actors. Sometimes it seems as if its impossible to find an OTR episode from the late 1940s and 1950s that didn’t have Conrad in it—if only in a bit part.

This episode of Escape is a tour de force for Conrad. He’s a veteran suffering from shell-shock who becomes lost and panicky during a foggy London night. His doctor has advised him to avoid any shocks, but that’s a hard thing to avoid when you stumbled across the body of a murdered woman.

A great script and a brilliantly constructed plot support Conrad’s performance as it all leads up to a fantastic ending.
