Friday's Favorite OTR

Fort Laramie: "The Woman at Horse Creek" 2/12/56

Quince and a patrol find an isolated cabin. The woman living there is alone--her husband died painfully from a gangrenous leg. Their sympathies aroused, the troopers raise enough money to send her to her family back East. But then... Gee whiz, this is a brutal episode!

Friday's Favorite OTR

Fort Laramie: "The Buffalo Hunters" 9/9/56

A pair of buffalo hunters are illegally hunting on reservation land. This is the sort of thing that can spark off a war.

Friday's Favorite OTR

Fort Laramie: "Old Enemy" 7/15/56

A trooper who has held a grudge against Captain Quince since the Civil War is assigned to the fort. He begins to subtly cause trouble among the enlisted men. The tense standoff between the two enemies at the climax is particularly well-done.

Fort Laramie: "Galvanized Yankee" 10/7/56

The Civil War on Old-Time Radio (Part 16 of 17)

This is the 16th of 17 episodes from various series that will take us through the Civil War and its immediate post-war legacy. I'll be posting another Civil War episode every three or four weeks.

Frliday's Favorite OTR

Fort Laramie: "Talented Recruits" 7/8/58

This is my personal favorite episode of Fort Laramie. Parley Baer plays a washed-up medicine show man. John Dehner plays a washed-up Shakespearean actor. The two have formed an unlikely friendship and decide to join the army as an alternative to starving to death. Baer and Dehner play the roles to perfection and you find yourself growing closer to them as the story gradually slides from comedy to tragedy.

A new article by me.

Here's a new article I've written on the classic OTR shows Fort Laramie and Frontier Gentleman:

Fort Laramie/Frontier Gentleman

I based the articles in part on the Review and Episode Guides I've previously published on these shows. The links below are for the Kindle versions, though you can also get them for the Nook HERE.

Buy my stuff

At the risk of being overly obnoxious, I am going to use Saturdays to publish a link to one of my books or ebooks.

FORT LARAMIE: A REVIEW AND EPISODE GUIDE OF THE OLD-TIME RADIO SERIES

A review and detailed episode guide of the Western series that played on CBS radio in 1956. A strong, well-written show with great characters, it was a short-lived but worthwhile edition to the Western genre. Raymond Burr starred as Captain Lee Quince, the tough professional who led a cavalry troop stationed at the titular fort during the 1870s.
